Liverpool finally have Alexander Isak green light from Newcastle as club record deal materialises - opinion

Liverpool have been in pursuit of Alexander Isak for the majority of the summer transfer window, with the Swede also desperate for a move to the Reds under Arne Slot.

Isak wants out of Newcastle, with the striker unwilling to train for the Magpies and not having made a single appearance this season under Eddie Howe.

Isak’s ideal destination is Liverpool, and the Swede has not exactly made it a secret that Arne Slot’s side is the one for him.

So far, Newcastle are still saying Isak is not for sale – but could a club record deal elsewhere make it more likely that Liverpool finally land him?

Newcastle are signing Nick Woltemade

Newcastle are signing Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart, with the club forking out around £64 million for his signature, which will be the Magpies’ club record fee.

The Germans’ arrival at St James’ Park means the search for a striker is over for Newcastle, which surely increases the likelihood of them letting Isak leave for Liverpool.

TBR Football can also reveal that after Woltemade, the Magpies aren’t done, with deals for Yoane Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen also in the works.

That means a lot of money is being splashed – and a lot of money needs to be recouped. This is where a near-£150m deal springs to mind.

Newcastle can now allow Alexander Isak deal to materialise

The reported fee for Isak has been around £150m, and if Newcastle are set to bring in more forwards after Woltemade, they will surely need funds to balance the books.

Isak to Liverpool seems inevitable – but the Woltemade deal almost makes it a certainty. Newcastle had understandable reluctance to sell without a viable replacement – but now they have just that.

It’s going to be a tasty end to what has been the most ridiculous transfer window of all time in the Premier League, with Woltemade the latest star-studded acquisition.
