Chelsea strike £40m agreement with Man Utd for Garnacho

On the move: Alejandro Garnacho

Chelsea Football Newsletter

The Argentine winger has not featured at all this season for Ruben Amorim’s side after he was told by the Portuguese head coach to find a new club.

Garnacho had reportedly been angling for a move to Chelsea all summer, and now Standard Sport understands that a deal worth £40m has been struck for him to make the move to Stamford Bridge.

It is believed that United have also inserted a 10 per cent sell-on clause into the deal.

The Blues will land a key target as the summer transfer deadline approaches on September 1, and Garnacho could compete with Jamie Gittens, signed from Borussia Dortmund earlier in the window, for a starting berth on the left flank.

The forward played 36 times in the Premier League for United last term, scoring six and assisting twice as the Red Devils finished 15th in the table.

He featured in 15 Europa League games, getting on the scoresheet once.

Since the start of pre-season, Garnacho has been training away from the first-team squad at Carrington as part of a ‘bomb squad’ that United are trying to sell before the end of the window.

Within that cohort is Jadon Sancho, who Chelsea sent back to Manchester after paying a penalty fee to nullify the obligation they had to buy him after his loan spell in west London last season.
