David Moyes and Everton tried to sign former West Ham star in ‘recent days’ - journalist

Everton are trying some last-minute deals to secure David Moyes’ wishes before deadline day, and an interesting name cropped up.

It’s been a strong summer for the Toffees as The Friedkin Group have answered Moyes’ prayers this summer.

Not all areas have been covered though, and it seems like Everton still want two more positions: a right-back and a central midfielder.

Recently, Everton had a Tomas Soucek bid rejected as the Scotsman has looked upon his former players.

But another star who had time at West Ham seemed to creep up on the Blues’ radar before making a move.

Everton boss David Moyes tried to sign former West Ham star Carlos Soler before Real Sociedad agreement

A midfielder seems to be the point of focus, with Idrissa Gana Gueye potentially still needing a partner in the middle of the park.

Tim Iroegbunam has impressed early on for Everton, but there is also the case of experience, as the Toffees have tried to go for Spaniard Carlos Soler.

According to L’Equipe reporter, Loic Tanzi, Everton ‘attempted’ to bring in the midfielder who was on loan with West Ham last season.

It states that in ‘recent days’, the Blues were discussing a possible deal, but Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with PSG.

Although this type of player would be welcomed through his experience, his season with the Irons last campaign wasn’t exactly glittering.

Everton dodged a bullet with Carlos Soler after underwhelming West Ham stint

There will be names surrounding this position for the remaining days of this window, but Soler wouldn’t have been the correct option for the Toffees.

The 28-year-old struggled in the Premier League last season, and judging by Everton’s business so far, it doesn’t match the quality they’ve brought in.

After having a successful time at Valencia, it’s clear to see why Moyes wanted the Spaniard, but following one season in the English top flight, it looks like a red flag.

With Harrison Armstrong stepping up for Everton as well, it looks as though a central midfielder might not be needed after all, but if they were to get one, the Toffees have done well to avoid Soler.
