Man Utd have agreed their first sale of the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old has been free to leave United all summer after he was frozen out by Ruben Amorim after the Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. Garnacho was not required to report for pre-season training and made it clear his preference was to move to another Premier League club.

Chelsea identified Garnacho as a top transfer target and always planned to bid for him late in the window in an attempt to get him as cheaply as possible. United valued the Argentine at £50m but have agreed a deal that will see them receive a fixed fee of £40m as well as a 10% sell-on clause.

It means Garnacho will go down as the fourth-largest sale in the history of the club, behind the fees received for Cristiano Ronaldo, Romelu Lukaku and Angel di Maria. He will also become the most expensive academy graduate sale, with the fee recognised as pure profit from a financial perspective.

United sources described the transfer agreement as a 'good' and 'pragmatic' solution for a player who has been itching to leave the club all summer. United are also pleased that they were able to finalise a deal worth £40m after Chelsea made an opening bid of just £25m for the player.

Fabrizio Romano took to social media to give the transfer his 'here we go' seal of approval, while it is claimed Garnacho will sign a seven-year deal at Chelsea. "Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea, here we go! Deal done between #CFC and Man United," he posted across his channels. "Garnacho only wanted Chelsea and will sign seven year deal at the club for fee close to £40m package."
