Manchester United are keeping close tabs on Angelo Stiller as a potential replacement for Kobbie Mainoo, with Real Madrid also keen.
According to TEAMtalk, Angelo Stiller is a player high on Manchester United’s list of potential midfield targets in the final days of the transfer window. The German talent is viewed as a replacement for Kobbie Mainoo should the 20-year-old depart before the deadline, with Real Madrid also keen on the Stuttgart star.
Angelo Stiller had a brilliant season with VfB Stuttgart, and as the campaign ended with a cup victory, Real Madrid were linked rather quickly with a move. Widespread expectations pointed at the 24-year-old Bundesliga midfielder to make the move to the Santiago Bernabeu, but things drastically cooled down.
Stuttgart and Real Madrid held talks over a complicated move, but as the summer window inches closer to its deadline, there has been no movement on that front. However, in the last few days, Manchester United have seen strong links to the 24-year-old, following their failure to land a top-notch midfielder in the window.
Carlos Baleba was their priority target, but owing to Brighton & Hove Albion’s stance, Manchester United walked away from the pursuit. They had since identified Stiller as a potential alternative alongside many other notable names, including Sporting CP’s Morten Hjulmand and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.
A report stated Manchester United viewed Stiller as a replacement for Kobbie Mainoo rather than an alternative to Baleba. Mainoo’s future is in doubt, with the midfielder reportedly considering a late exit from the club. So, the Red Devils would lean towards making a move for the 24-year-old Real Madrid-linked Bundesliga midfielder.
Will Manchester United sign Angelo Stiller?
Real Madrid are still credited with an interest in Stiller, and there could be a case of a late move. Manchester United may end up losing out to the Spanish giants in case of a transfer tussle, although in all this, Stiller’s stance could be key.
As per the report, Angelo Stiller is currently leaning towards staying at Stuttgart and will resist any late offers for his services. It remains to be seen whether he maintains the stance should one of Manchester United or Real Madrid make their moves, especially by tabling a concrete offer. For now, the German midfielder is widely expected to stay where he is, but things often change around the transfer window deadline.
