And so ends the Nick Woltemade to FC Bayern transfer saga.

The highly-regarded VfB Stuttgart striker is poised to complete a big-money move to the Premier League.

Newcastle are now understood to be firmly in the lead for the Germany international, with a medical scheduled to take place on Friday.

The clubs involved have agreed a fee of €85m [£73.5m] plus €5m [£4.3m] in add-ons.

Newcastle take revenge on Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich famously beat out rival interest from Newcastle for the signing of Michael Olise back in the summer of 2024.

However, the Magpies are not far away from completing a revenge transfer arc with the potential signing of FC Bayern target Woltemade.

The Bundesliga striker is already on his way to England, having said his goodbyes to Stuttgart and his teammates.

It’s understood that the 23-year-old centre-forward is being slated as Alexander Isak’s successor, with the Sweden international expected to sign for Liverpool in the same window.

Why is Woltemade an interesting signing for the Premier League?

It seems a little surprising that only FC Bayern were so heavily invested in the number 11 of Stuttgart throughout much of the summer transfer window.

Nick Woltemade is, of course, far from the finished product at 23 years of age. However, he’s already showcased enough in the way of qualities to warrant the interest of elite clubs in his services.

He amassed a respectable, if not world-shattering, 20 goal contributions in 33 games (across all competitions). The German top-flight hitman then followed that tally with nine goal contributions in five games in the UEFA U21 Euros, helping Germany reach the final (where they fell short to England).

What’s Bayern’s reaction to missing out on Nick Woltemade transfer?

There is, as one might reasonably expect, an air of disappointment at Säbener Straße.

Bayern bosses followed Woltemade’s latest performance in the DFB Pokal where Stuttgart progressed via penalty shootout against Eintracht Braunschweig. The striker came on in the 71st minute and registered an equalising goal (to make it 3-3) in the 89th minute.

Now, Bayern are surprised and disappointed by this latest development ahead of the transfer window deadline, as they thought his signing was safe from interference.
