Woltemade spotted in Newcastle & transfer fee goes public as Stuttgart issue statement

Newcastle United are all set to sign a striker, with German giant Nick Woltemade now in the North East as we speak.

The 23-year-old flew in on Thursday night and Sky Sports have now confirmed that the big man has arrived on Tyneside, touching down at Newcastle airport shortly after 9pm tonight.

He will undergo his medical in the morning and details on the club-record transfer fee have emerged, with Sky Sports’ Keith Downie revealing that it’s £65m up front plus £4m in add-ons, making it worth a total package of £69m.

A clip has also emerged of the 6ft 6″ Woltemade checking into Quayside Hotel Dakota just moments ago:

A statement on Thursday night has also arrived from Stuttgart, who confirm that they have released the player from club duties ahead of an immediate transfer:

‘VfB has received an offer from a European club for an immediate transfer.

‘Shortly before the summer transfer window closed, VfB Stuttgart received an offer from a European club for an immediate transfer of Nick Woltemade.

‘The terms of this offer have prompted club officials to release Nick Woltemade from training and matchday duties in order to hold talks with the interested party about a potential transfer. A decision on this is expected before the end of tomorrow, Friday.’

Newcastle face a race against time, but the club are pushing to complete his medical and all the formalities before 12pm on Friday to give him a chance of featuring at Leeds this weekend.
