Barcelona see teenage starlet as ‘ready to step up’ if Fermín López leaves

The coaching staff at La Liga giants Barcelona are convinced that an up-and-coming member of the club’s attacking ranks is more than ready to step into a more prominent role, in the case of Fermín López departing.

Midfielder Fermín has of course been hotly tipped to bring a close to the Barcelona chapter of his career over the days ahead.

As much comes amid an ongoing push on the part of Premier League heavyweights Chelsea for his signature.

In the case of Deco and co. sanctioning a sale, Barca will be expected to secure a considerable sum for Fermín’s services.

Many, in turn, would likely expect such funds to be made use of on a replacement for the 22-year-old.

As alluded to above, however, if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, instead, Hansi Flick and co. intend to promote from within.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:

‘Dro’s emergence confirms that, in the development stages, those who appear to be ahead don’t always end up making their way. The Galician has convinced Flick’s coaching staff, and the club sees him as ready to step up should Fermín leave.’

Dro, full name Pedro Fernández, is fresh off a dazzling pre-season with Hansi Flick’s Barca, which saw the attack-minded midfielder, at just 17, make a name for himself as the club’s next breakout star in the making.
