The Seattle Seahawks made a flurry of moves, including three additions to the roster, on Thursday afternoon.

Seattle officially signed linebacker Chazz Surratt to its 53-man roster, plus linebacker Chris “Pooh” Paul Jr. and return specialist Courtney Jackson to the practice squad. Each of those moves were first reported Wednesday.

Safety D’Anthony Bell was released to make room on the 53-man roster. Running back Anthony Tyus III and linebacker Jalan Gaines were released to make room on the practice squad.

Surratt spent the past three seasons with the New York Jets before signing with the San Francisco 49ers in May. He played two preseason games with the 49ers before getting released during roster cutdowns this week. The former third-round pick was a key special teams player for the Jets, totaling 558 special teams snaps over the past two seasons.

Paul, a fifth-round pick by the Los Angeles Rams in April, was waived by the Rams on Tuesday. The Ole Miss product recorded 14 tackles (four solo) in three preseason games for Los Angeles. Paul was a third-team AP All-American while totaling 88 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and one interception in 12 games at Ole Miss last season.

Surratt and Paul add some needed depth to the Seahawks’ linebacker room. The team had just three off-ball linebackers (Ernest Jones IV, Tyrice Knight, Drake Thomas) on its initial 53-man roster that was announced Tuesday.

Jackson, an undrafted rookie at Arkansas State, was cut by the Denver Broncos on Tuesday. He averaged 14.8 yards on five punt returns and 22 yards on four kick returns in the preseason, adding three catches for 29 yards and a 30-yard rush in three games. Jackson recorded four touchdowns while averaging 14 yards on 40 punt returns across six college seasons with Arkansas State and Syracuse.

Bell, a fourth-year pro, was one of five safeties to make Seattle’s initial 53-man roster. The West Florida product was a key special teams contributor for the Cleveland Brows over the past three seasons and made seven starts on defense along the way. He has 61 tackles, four passes defended and two interceptions in 50 career NFL games.

Tyus, an undrafted rookie out of Ohio, had four carries for eight yards and one catch for two yards in the preseason with Seattle. Gaines, an undrafted rookie out of Illinois State, appeared in Seattle’s first preseason game and did not record any stats. The Seattle Times’ Bob Condotta reported Gaines left an Aug. 13 practice with a hand injury. He did not appear in a game afterwards.
