Green Bay Packers trade for Dallas Cowboys' Micah Parsons

Aug. 28 (UPI) -- The Dallas Cowboys agreed to trade All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, a league source told UPI on Thursday.

The Packers are set to send two first-round picks and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark to the Cowboys in exchange for Parsons.

Parsons also agreed to a four-year, $188 million contract with the Packers, Athletes First announced. The deal includes $136 million guaranteed and an average salary of $47 million, making Parsons the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

The four-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time first-team All-Pro released a highlight video and a farewell message Thursday on his social media platforms.

"I never wanted this chapter to end, but not everything was in my control," Parsons wrote. "My heart has always been here, and it still is. Through it all, I never made any demands I never asked for anything more than fairness. I only asked that the person I trust to negotiate my contract be part of the process.

"This is a sad day, but not a bitter one. I'll never forget the joy of draft night, the adrenaline of running out of the tunnel, or the brotherhood I shared with my teammates, coaches and the staff who prepared me for every single game. Those memories are mine forever."

Parsons said he plans to keep a home in North Texas and called wearing the star the "honor of my life."

The No. 12 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft totaled 52.5 sacks over his first 63 NFL starts. Parsons, 26, also totaled 112 quarterback hits, 63 tackles for a loss, nine passes defensed, nine forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and a fumble return for a touchdown through his first four seasons.

Clark, 29, totaled 37 combined tackles, five quarterback hits, four tackles for a loss, two passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and a sack over 17 starts last season. The three-time Pro Bowl selection, who entered the league as the No. 27 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, signed a three-year, $64 million extension with the Packers last off-season.

The Cowboys will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL season opener Sept. 4 in Philadelphia. The Packers will host the Detroit Lions in their first game Sept. 7 in Green Bay, Wis.

The Packers will meet the Cowboys for a Sunday Night Football matchup Sept. 28 in Arlington, Texas. That game will air at 8:20 p.m. EDT on NBC.
