“Cowboys Winning the Super Bowl?” — NFL Insider Breaks Down Micah Parsons Trade Gamble

On August 29, ESPN analyst and former “Good Morning Football” host Peter Schrager questioned the Dallas Cowboys’ strategy in trading linebacker Micah Parsons. Posting on X, he asked:

“Were Cowboys winning the Super Bowl this year? Did they win big with Micah Parsons? Jerry is rolling the dice because he didn’t want to pay Micah and because he can. Go ask other GMs if they’d take 2 1st rounders, Clark, and $47 m for guy…you’d be surprised how many say yes.”

The insider’s remarks come as ESPN reporterAdam Schefter confirmed Dallas is trading Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. The four-time Pro Bowler has agreed to a four-year, $188M deal ($120M fully guaranteed), which makes him the highest-paid non-QB in NFL history. Parsons also shared the news on his IG Story.

The trade also resolves a long-standing dispute with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. Jones reportedly said Parsons reneged on a March “handshake” extension agreement. The 26-year-old, however, argued the talks were informal, and his agent was not involved.

The three-time All-Pro linebacker had also filed a grievance over his fifth-year option salary. He claimed $24.007M as an LB versus Big D’s $21.324M defensive end designation. The Packers deal now positions Parsons to earn over $40M per season, exceeding the likes of Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt.

New Packers edge rusher Micah Parsons wasted little time appreciating his former team. On August 29, he took to X to thank Dallas fans and the community after his trade.

“Cowboys Nation,” Parsons wrote, “growing up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, I was one of the few kids in my neighborhood who cheered for the Dallas Cowboys. Nearly everyone around supported the Eagles, but I always believed in the star. To wear the blue and white at Penn State and then carry those same colors into the NFL as a Cowboys, it was more than a dream, it was destiny.”

Parsons acknowledged his warm welcome in Dallas, also expressing disappointment over things that didn’t work out. Check out his tweet below:

The 26-year-old LB arrived in Green Bay after a months-long standoff with Jones over contract negotiations. Following his Aug. 1 trade request, Parsons now joins the Packers on a new four-year contract extension.
