Liverpool defender close to Serie A move

Premier League champions Liverpool will hope to continue their strong start to the new season when they host Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Arne Slot’s side cruised to the top flight title during his first season in charge of the club, but the Reds have thrown away two-goal leads in each of their two matches so far this term.

After a 4-2 victory against Bournemouth on the opening night of the season, the Merseyside giants secured a dramatic 3-2 win against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Monday evening.

New signing Hugo Ekitike has been particularly impressive in the first few matches of his Liverpool career, while Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz have also featured in both games.

Now, it appears that one member of Slot’s squad could be departing Anfield.

As per Fabrizio Romano, left-back Kostas Tsimikas is pushing for a move to Italian side Roma, with the two clubs advancing in negotiations about a possible loan deal.

The Greece international has played a bit-part role for the Reds since signing from Olympiakos back in 2020, making a total of 115 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Romano claims that an agreement between the two clubs is getting closer, with the 29-year-old having already agreed a move to the Italian capital.

It is claimed that the left-back is likely to join Roma on a season-long loan move, with the Serie A giants covering the player’s salary.

Last term Tsimikas featured 29 times for Slot’s side, including 18 appearances in the Premier League as the Reds cruised to the top flight title.

The Greek defender’s current contract with Liverpool isn’t set to expire until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, but his future at Anfield now appears uncertain with the player likely to spend the remainder of the current campaign on loan at Roma.
