Micah Parsons will get a fresh start and a record-breaking contract in Green Bay.
The Dallas Cowboys traded the star linebacker to the Packers on Thursday in a blockbuster move that includes two first-round picks and Kenny Clark, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport.
The Packers are giving Parsons a four-year, $188 million contract.
Parsons released a lengthy statement on X shortly after the news broke.
“This is a sad day, but not a bitter one,” he wrote. “I’ll never forget the joy of draft night, the adrenaline of running out of the tunnel or the brotherhood I shared with my teammates, coaches and the staff who prepared me for every single game. Those memories are mine forever.
“Thank you Cowboys Nation, for every cheer, every moment, and every ounce of love you showed me. Wearing the star has been the honor of my life.”
Parsons requested a trade out of Dallas earlier this month, saying he no longer wants to be with the Cowboys. The 26-year-old was set to enter the final year of his contract.
The Cowboys drafted Parsons No. 12 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. He instantly became a force for Dallas, amassing 52.5 sacks in his first four seasons. He also has been named a Pro Bowler in each of his four seasons, and is a two-time First-Team All-Pro.
It won’t take long for Parsons to see his old team. The Cowboys are set to host the Packers in Week 4.
