Newcastle United make new transfer move as Wolves stand firm on Jorgen Strand-Larsen

The latest Newcastle United transfer news and opinion as the Magpies continue to search for a new striker

Newcastle remain keen on a move for Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen

Newcastle United have just a few days left to bolster their attack and bring in the striker they've been craving in the summer transfer window. The Magpies are still looking for a replacement for Callum Wilson, who left the club at the end of his contract.

Add in the Alexander Isak debacle as well as the recent suspension to Anthony Gordon and Eddie Howe's need is there for all to see.

The Toon look to have secured a breakthrough with Nick Woltemade due on Tyneside to complete a medical whiel Brentford forward Yoane Wissa continues to be linked with the Magpies, while another name has cropped up in recent days.

With that in mind, ChronicleLive has taken a look at the latest Newcastle United transfer news and speculation.

Wolves make Jorgen Strand-Larsen stance clear

The Telegraph claims Wolves would have rejected a third approach from Newcastle United for striker Jorgen Strand Larsen having had two bids rejected. The latest of those was in the region of £55 million, with Wolves chairman Jeff Shi adamant the striker will not be leaving.

Wolves are said to have Genk striker Tolu Arokodare on their list of potential targets.

Meanwhile, The Athletic claims that Strand Larsen has told Wolves he wants to leave following the bids from Newcastle. It adds that the Magpies view the Norwegian striker as a replacement for Callum Wilson, rather than Alexander Isak who is pushing for a move to Liverpool.

Chronicle Live says: "Like almost every club this summer, Wolves won't want to lose one of their better players so close to the deadline, but there's still time for that to change. Woltemade's proposed arrival could put an end to any Strand-Larsen talks, if Wissa is viewed as more obtainable, though time will tell."

Magpies 'approach' AS Roma

Corriere Dello Sport claims Newcastle have made an 'approach' to sign AS Roma forward Artem Dovbyk on loan before Monday's transfer window deadline.

The Ukrainian striker is expected to leave the Serie A side this summer amid interest from a number of Premier League clubs and Villareal. The La Liga side have reportedly had a loan approach rebuffed by Roma, with the Magpies following suit.

It's said that the Toon are unwilling to add in an obligation to buy, making it unlikely the player will move.

Chronicle Live says: "Dovbyk was one of the most impressive strikers in Europe in 2023/24 having scored 24 goals in 39 appearances for Girona in La Liga. That fine form saw him move to Italy where he bagged 17 goals in 45 appearances in all competitions. Although there have been no concrete links in England, Dovbyk is of a similar powerful striker mould that Howe likes."
