New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado carted off on stretcher in FIBA AmeriCup game

New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado was injured Thursday night during a game in the FIBA AmeriCup in Miami.

Alvarado, playing for Puerto Rico, was carried off the court on a stretcher in the third quarter of the game, according to a video posted on X. The injury is a lower back and neck contusion, according to the social media post by sports anchor Levi Luna.

Puerto Rico was playing against Argentina, which won the game 82-77.

“I want to send prayers to Jose Alvarado,” Argentina coach Pablo Prigioni said after the game. “I hope he gets well soon. Super nice kid, Excellent player. It’s always sad to see guys going down that way. Hopefully he recovers soon.”

Alvarado is entering his fifth season with the Pelicans. He averaged a career-high in points (10.3), assists (4.6) and rebounds (2.4) last season.
