VfB Stuttgart release official statement amid Nick Woltemade and Newcastle United developments

VfB Stuttgart have released a statement regarding striker Nick Woltemade after a £69m deal with Newcastle United was agreed.

With Alexander Isak still refusing to play for the club to which he is contracted, Eddie Howe has taken it upon himself to find a new striker and has found one: Nick Woltemade.

After talks which were kept under wraps, Woltemade has travelled to Newcastle for a medical ahead of a club-record move believed to be in the region of £69m.

Newcastle United are hoping to have the deal done before Friday afternoon and have him registered ahead of the trip to Elland Road when they play Leeds United.

While Woltemade is a significant deal for the club, Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle still want to sign another striker before the transfer window closes on Monday. With the German star soon to be a Newcastle player, VfB Stuttgart have released an official statement effectively confirming that the deal has been finalised.

VfB Stuttgart statement ahead of Nick Woltemade’s Newcastle United medical

Thursday has been an exciting day for Newcastle fans, who also had a Champions League draw to deal with while the Woltemade news was flooding in.

It has been confirmed that Newcastle have eight tasty Champions League opponents, including Bayer Leverkusen, whom Woltemade has faced on four occasions.

The 23-year-old is a raw talent, but someone Howe is looking forward to working with. Now, Stuttgart’s statement has dropped, and it is great news for Newcastle.

“VfB has received an offer from a European club for an immediate transfer,” the statement read.

“Shortly before the summer transfer window closed, VfB Stuttgart received an offer from a European club for an immediate transfer of Nick Woltemade.

“The terms of this offer have prompted club officials to release Nick Woltemade from training and matchday duties in order to hold talks with the interested party about a potential transfer. A decision on this is expected before the end of tomorrow, Friday.”

Newcastle United are not done in the transfer window after Nick Woltemade

Barring what has happened with Isak this summer, Newcastle have had a good transfer window. Four senior signings already, and a fifth on the way in Woltemade.

However, it does not look as though Newcastle are done yet.

A second striker is desired at Newcastle, and while Jorgen Strand Larsen has been the talk of Tyneside in recent days, it looks as though Brentford’s Yoane Wissa is still on their agenda.

The 28-year-old has made it clear that he wants to join the Magpies this summer, and like Isak, is still making himself unavailable to get the move to go through.

Strand Larsen will no longer be pursued by Newcastle, as he is too similar to Woltemade, so Wissa is now the most likely signing before the window closes.

Wissa is apparently ‘desperate’ to join Newcastle. His prayers could be answered before the window closes on Monday.
