Newcastle United transfer news: Alexander Isak continues to be linked with a move to Liverpool this summer.
With just four days left of the summer transfer window to go, Newcastle United are expected to be one of the busier clubs between now and Monday’s deadline. Both incomings and outgoings will be closely monitored on Tyneside and, of course, there needs to be a resolution to Alexander Isak’s situation.
The Swedish international has not yet kicked a ball for the Magpies this season and missed their whole pre-season campaign. In his absence, Eddie Howe’s side have drawn one and lost one of their opening two Premier League matches of the season - although their performances have perhaps merited a lot more than just one point.
Despite going down to ten men against Liverpool on Monday night, Howe’s side rallied and were just minutes away from sealing a much deserved point. Their fightback on Monday was spearheaded by Bruno Guimaraes who put in a warrior-like performance in midfield.
Whilst his teammates, namely Sandro Tonali, Joelinton and Fabian Schar dropped with injury around him, Guimaraes put the weight of the world on his shoulders and very almost dragged his team to a memorable point.
Bruno Guimaraes opens up on Alexander Isak situation
Into his second season as team captain, Guimaraes has proved himself to be a real leader of a group that is blessed with leaders across the team. Now, though, Guimaraes has to deal with a unique situation involving Isak.
The Magpies are at their best when they are united and showed that on Monday night. As the days tick by until the end of the summer window, and it looks increasingly likely that Isak will remain a Newcastle United player, then reintegration of the Swedish international will be next on the agenda for Howe, Guimaraes and co.

The Brazilian was asked by ESPN Brasil for the latest on his teammate, with Guimaraes admitting he has had ‘no contact’ with the striker: “I haven't had any contact with him. We've been training in the mornings, and he trains at a different time, when no one from the team is around.
“As captain, and for us as players, it's a tough situation because we want to have the best players with us. But that's something we can't control - the club, the management, the owners are dealing with it, and I hope it gets sorted out in the best way.
“We're really missing our striker, a player who scored more than 20 goals in the Premier League last season, so of course he's someone we feel the absence of. We hope to have our best player back, but unfortunately this is a situation that neither I nor any other player can control.”
Newcastle United face Leeds United on Saturday evening (5:30pm kick-off) in their final match before the end of the summer transfer window which closes at 7pm on Monday. An international weekend then follows that game, meaning Newcastle United will have to wait another two weeks before they return to St James’ Park and play in front of their supporters again.
