David Ornstein shares what he’s hearing about Chelsea outcast Raheem Sterling in training

Raheem Sterling’s future is still up in the air as we enter the final few days of the summer transfer window. We hope a deal is sorted for the Chelsea outcast to allow him to go and play football somewhere this season.

Unlike the majority of his career, Raheem Sterling has struggled at Chelsea since he joined them in 2022. The 30-year-old winger was outstanding for Liverpool and then Manchester City for so many years, but he’s regressed significantly recently.

He struggled during a season-long loan at Arsenal last year and is currently with Chelsea’s bomb squad while he waits for his future to be sorted.

Even though Chelsea are looking to sell Sterling this summer, they are running out of time. Apparently, Fulham could soon accelerate interest in Sterling as they plot a move for the experienced Blues attacker.

Raheem Sterling has trained well at Chelsea

Sterling has been training away from Chelsea’s main first team this summer alongside plenty of other individuals not in Enzo Maresca’s plans.

According to well-respected journalist David Ornstein, Sterling has trained well at Chelsea, even under less than ideal circumstances.

Speaking on The Athletic podcast, Ornstein said: “Raheem Sterling, there will be interest in him, no doubt. There always is. I hear he’s training well in more of a loans group.”

In fairness, Sterling is a great professional and hasn’t done anything to upset Chelsea fans. Unfortunately, the wide man’s best form deserted him with the Blues.

If he joins a mid-table club such as Fulham, his experience and know-how could be a real asset. He needs to go somewhere he can get back to playing regularly again, too.

Sterling’s potential suitors reportedly include Fulham, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Juventus.

What Todd Boehly said when Chelsea signed Raheem Sterling

At the time, there was certainly a lot of excitement when Chelsea signed Sterling at the age of 27.

Blues co-owner Todd Boehly was one of the people delighted to sign him from Man City.

Back in July 2022, Boehly said via Chelsea’s official website: “Raheem Sterling is a serial winner and his signing is an important step in strengthening our squad. We are delighted for Raheem to return to London with Chelsea, and we look forward to seeing his world-class talent on display at Stamford Bridge.”

In fairness, Chelsea’s recruitment and transfer strategy has changed drastically in the space of three years, mostly for the better as well.
