Aston Villa welcome Crystal Palace to Villa Park on Sunday.
Unai Emery is still waiting for a Premier League goal from his side let alone a win, following a 0-0 draw against Newcastle and a 1-0 defeat at Brentford for Aston Villa.
Crystal Palace have only netted one goal themselves, but can boast two points from tricky tests against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest.
Paul Merson has now shared his prediction for the game, and is not expecting either side to end their winless run.
Paul Merson backs Aston Villa and Crystal Palace to draw
The man who made 144 appearances for Aston Villa believes we will see a 1-1 draw at Villa Park on Sunday.
Merson wrote for Sportskeeda: “I’ve been really disappointed with Aston Villa so far this season. I can understand the draw against Newcastle, they were down to ten men and did well to hold on to a point, but they did nothing at Brentford, that was a really poor performance.
“Villa have not scored a goal yet. I remember Crystal Palace did really well in all three meetings between these two sides last season. Oliver Glasner’s men knocked Villa out of the EFL Cup before grabbing a 2-2 draw in the league game away from home.
“Ismaila Sarr and Jean-Philippe Mateta will be a threat and Palace will not sit back.
“This is a tough game for Villa, but I expect them to avoid defeat. Prediction: Aston Villa 1-1 Crystal Palace.”
Sarr is a threat for Aston Villa in particular, having incredibly scored seven goals in seven games against the Villans throughout his career – also providing three assists.
The Senegal international boasts six wins and a draw from these outings, so he has never lost to Aston Villa either.
Why does Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace kick off at 7pm?
A 7pm start for a Premier League game on Sunday is quite unusual, and many have asked on Google why this time slot has been chosen.
The real reason is due to Crystal Palace’s involvement in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday.
Broadcasters had already selected Aston Villa vs Crystal Palace for television on Friday night, but that is now too short a turnaround due to the European clash.
Additionally, with an international break coming after this round of fixtures, the Monday night slot was not an option, and given the fact the fixture needed to remain as a standalone game – which it was originally meant to be for Friday – the Premier League chose 7pm on Sunday.
