Wow: Newcastle ready to pay £86m to sign 'unbelievable' star after Woltemade - report

Newcastle United are ready to pay £86m to sign Barcelona playmaker Fermin Lopez after agreeing a club-record deal for Nick Woltemade, according to El Chringuito.

The Magpies have had a busy summer transfer window as Eddie Howe looks to bolster his squad ahead of a Champions League campaign with Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale, Malick Thiaw, Jacob Ramsey all joining.

A striker has been seen as a priority for the window and after the club agreed a move to sign Stuttgart striker Woltemade in a £78m deal, they are now ready to go all-in to sign someone to provide him with service to find the back of the net.

Lopez, who has been described as 'unbelievable' by analyst Neal Gardner, has now emerged as a top target for the Toon and the club are ready to make a big play to take him to St James' Park.

According to the report, Newcastle are prepared to pay €100m (£86m) to sign the Spanish playmaker and would even be willing to quadruple his wages. It's believed that the playmaker currently earns around £66,000-a-week at the Camp Nou.

The 22-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea in recent days, but it's understood that Newcastle are the team making the biggest push now as they look to strengthen in the final days of the window.

Woltemade is believed to be seen internally as a replacement for Alexander Isak, who is pushing for a move to Liverpool, but Newcastle are adamant they want two forwards in as well as a British record fee to let him go.

Alongside Woltemade and Lopez, Howe is also still keen on adding Brentford striker Yoane Wissa to the squad before the deadline, with the DR Congo international pushing to join as he wants to play in the Champions League.
