Man Utd's stance as Kobbie Mainoo tells club he wants to leave in next 96 hours

Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo has reportedly told the club he wants to leave on loan before the transfer window shuts next week. Despite not featuring for the Red Devils in theiropening two Premier League matches, Mainoo has no desire to sever ties with the club permanently.

The midfielder made his intentions clear to the club's hierarchy on Thursday, stating that he wishes to further his career development and believes that warming the bench does not serve this purpose.

Despite his talent, Mainoo has found himself overlooked by manager Ruben Amorim, who seems to favour other midfield options, including deploying Bruno Fernandes in a deeper role. Consequently, Mainoo is keen to secure a season-long loan move, particularly with the World Cup looming this summer.

Mainoo's impressive performance under Erik ten Hag saw him start in the Euro 2024 final. However, his limited game time at Manchester United could hinder his chances of impressing ex-Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.

Despite laying out his plans, the club has reportedly told Mainoo they have no intention of approving his loan departure. Instead, they've emphasised his value to the team and expect him to stay and fight for his place, according to The Athletic.

Chelsea and Bayern Munich are among the clubs previously linked with the 20-year-old, although neither submitted a formal bid. Ten Hag, who handed Mainoo his breakthrough opportunity, was eager to bring him to Bayer Leverkusen but such a transfer was never viewed as realistic.

The midfielder penned fresh terms in February 2023 and his current United deal extends until 2027, featuring an additional 12-month option and performance-related salary increases.

Previous reports have suggested United might reluctantly entertain offers for Mainoo should an appropriate bid materialise. This stance stems primarily from the midfielder's homegrown status, with any potential departure representing pure profit on the books and assisting their PSR compliance.

Following Mainoo's omission from the Fulham stalemate, Amorim faced questions regarding his deployment of the youngster and maintained it was down to the player to demonstrate his value.

"The same as any player in that position. I expect a lot from Kobbie Mainoo," he declared.

"Again, people think that sometimes you need to just give... I think it is important for Kobbie to fight for his place. I believe a lot in Kobbie; more than what everyone thinks. I believe a lot in Kobbie. I expect a lot from him. He is playing in one position and is fighting with Bruno. They can play together."
