Not just Nick Woltemade - Second striker pushing for Newcastle United transfer

Newcastle United are wanting two strikers before the transfer window shuts on September 1.

Brentford boss Keith Andrews has confirmed Yoane Wissa will be unavailable again for their trip to Sunderland this weekend.

Wissa remains determined to force through a move to Newcastle United before the September 1 deadline. Toon chiefs saw an offer worth around £40million rejected last week - their second bid of the summer.

The 28-year-old is training with Brentford but has made it clear that he wishes to leave before the window slams shut. Meanwhile, Newcastle have agreed a deal for Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade.

Newcastle United land transfer breakthrough

The German arrived on Tyneside last night and will undergo a medical this morning before completing a £65million move. Newcastle must finalise the transfer before midday to include Woltemade in the squad for the trip to Leeds United on Saturday.

While fans rejoice, work is ongoing behind the scenes for another centre-forward. The Magpies went into the window wanting a No.9 to replace Callum Wilson, who left once his contract ended in July.

But the Alexander Isak saga complicated matters further, with clubs around Europe knowing Newcastle now need two strikers through the door. The Swede has downed tools since May and is angling for a move to Liverpool.

Newcastle signing a striker - even if it is just the one - increases the chances of Isak heading to Anfield. But as mentioned, the preference is to get two through the door before Monday’s deadline.

Yoane Wissa ‘pushing’ for Newcastle United

Journalist Ben Jacobs claims Wissa is still pushing to join the Magpies. He posted on social media: “Yoane Wissa is also still pushing to join Newcastle, whose last bid of £35million plus £5million was rejected by Brentford.

“NUFC want two attackers, with Wissa viewed as Callum Wilson's replacement. Another bid is likely.”

Bees boss Andrews has revealed that Wissa will not be available for selection at the Stadium of Light. He told reporters: “Copy and paste really from the other day, the exact same answer. Nothing has changed in terms of my stance and I don’t see any movement.

“It’s very much the same as it was really. No (whether Wissa will play against Sunderland this weekend). Again, (it is) similar to the other day really. I’m focused on the group that is settled, I suppose, and not got issues ongoing which clearly Yoane has so the squad will be pretty much the same as it was the other night.”
