‘Real talent’ – Birmingham City new boy praised by former EFL player

Birmingham City have signed a player with ‘real talent’ in Lewis Koumas, says former EFL man Don Goodman.

Birmingham City swooped to sign the attacker on loan from Liverpool last week. BCFC were promoted to the Championship last season from League One along with Wrexham and Charlton Athletic.

Koumas, 19, made his debut for the Blues against Port Vale in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night. However, they were beaten 1-0 by the Valiants.

Goodman has delivered his verdict on the player, as per a report by Football League World: “Well, basically, in Lewis Koumas, what Birmingham City are signing is a player with lots and lots of potential. You’d have said the same last season when Stoke City signed him, and he started off last season like a house on fire and looked a real talent.

“But, as the season wore on slowly, as it did in terms of Stoke City, his performance levels just petered away. So you hope that a very vibrant, a very intense, a very front-foot Birmingham City team can get the best out of him. I’m not sure how much game time he’s going to get. We will have to wait and see on that, as they do have quality in those areas.”

What next for Birmingham City?

Birmingham City have until the deadline on Monday 1st September to bring in more signings. BCFC have been active on the recruitment front throughout the summer since sealing their return from the third tier.

Koumas injects even more quality into their forward department. He is a bright talent who showed what he can do at Stoke City last term.

The Blues have seven points on the board from their first three league fixtures. They won 1-0 at home to Oxford United last time out in the league.

Davies’ men are back in action on Friday with an away trip to Leicester City. They will be looking to bounce back from their defeat to Port Vale.
