Liverpool player‘close to renewing’–Transfer options rejected and set to commit

Cody Gakpo was a regular for Liverpool last season, managing 18 goals and seven assists from close to 2,700 minutes from 49 games.

At the start of June, we covered claims from Germany that Bayern Munich had the 26-year-old on their list and had held initial talks over a summer move. It was also reported the forward wants to see a reaction from Liverpool.

His contract expires in 2028, and Gakpo was hoping for the Reds to offer him an improved deal.

Fast forward to end of August and Eindhovens Dagblad report the attacker had options to leave Anfield in this window. They make no mention of Bayern Munich or other clubs that have shown interest.

It won’t matter because the report says the Netherlands international is ‘close to renewing’ his contract with Liverpool. His renewal can be finalised soon, but ED make no mention of the details of the new contract.

Gakpo had options to leave Arne Slot’s side, but he hasn’t entertained them in favour of committing his long-term future to the Premier League winners.

The Dutchman has scored once and registered two assists from three games this season.
