Former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce, it has been reported by Fabrizio Romano, who has cited the club’s failure to qualify for the Champions League as the reason why the Portuguese tactician will be leaving the club.

Mourinho is a popular footballing figure who has been around the houses during his managerial career – starting his career at Benfica before spearheading FC Porto, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan to plenty of success in the 2000s and 2010s.

GIVEMESPORT Key Statsitic:

His latest managerial venture saw him take over Fenerbahce just months after being sacked from his role at AS Roma. Appointed by the Istanbul club in 2024, The Special One oversaw a second-place finish in the Turkish Super Lig, 11 points behind champions, and arch-rivals, Galatasaray.

Fenerbahce, who play their games at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, were eliminated from the Turkish Cup at the quarter-final stage, while their premature exit from the Europa League – in the round of 16 to Scottish outfit Rangers – also upset fans. And the 62-year-old's days at the club are over as, taking to X (formerly Twitter), Fabrizio Romano wrote:

“BREAKING: Fenerbahce part ways with Jose Mourinho as head coach won’t continue at the club. The decision has been made after missing on qualification to Champions League.”

As mentioned by Romano, Mourinho's departure comes fresh off the back of Fenerbahce missing out on a spot in the Champions League league phase. A play-off defeat to Benfica ended their European top table dream and, as a result, they will be competing in the Europa League this season.
