Sky Sports signs expanded three-year NFL deal

Sky Sports has signed a new three-year deal with the NFL that will see more than half of all games broadcast live for the first time.

Under the terms of the agreement Sky will continue to get first pick of an exclusive game at 6pm on Sunday and again at 9pm or 9.25pm.

The broadcaster will also show a second game at 6pm live, as well as up to two more games live in the later kickoff slot.

Sky also gets Thursday Night Football, Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football, RedZone, all European games, three Thanksgiving games, the playoffs in their entirety, the Pro Bowl and the Super Bowl.

The deal follows 5’s announcement that it will broadcast two non-exclusive games live free-to-air every Sunday night.

Jonathan Licht, Sky’s chief sports officer in the UK and Ireland, said: “We’re proud to extend our partnership with the NFL beyond 30 years. The sport continues to grow and captivate UK audiences, which we saw first-hand with record-breaking Super Bowl LVII viewership on Sky Sports.

“With more games than ever before, we’re excited to offer further value to our customers and continue to bring fans world-class coverage.”

Gerrit Meier, head of NFL International, added: “The UK market continues to be a priority for the NFL internationally, as we look to drive fandom and grow the game at every level around the world.

“Sky Sports has been a significant part of the NFL’s growth story in the UK over the years, helping us to reach new audiences and bring fans the very best NFL content, and we are delighted to see our expanded partnership continue.”
