Wrexham AFC Women have signed former Newcastle United pair, striker Katie Barker and defender Jodie Bartle.

Both players have signed two-year contracts with the Genero Adran Premier club, after departing the WSL 2 side his summer.

Barker was the Magpies’ record scorer with 67 goals during back-to-back promotions, Bartle arrives with Champions League experience from her time at Celtic with whom she won the League Cup and Scottish Cup.

Barker told wrexhamafc.co.uk: “There’s just such an exciting buzz around the club. I was sold straight away.

“It was always going to be a difficult decision to move away from Newcastle having been born and bred there, but coming to Wrexham just seemed right and with the family feel around the club and the town itself, it’s perfect for me.”

Bartle said: “Over the summer I took my time to find the right fit. I’ve known Jenny [Sugarman] for quite a while, and I think it’s the perfect time to be a part of the project.”

Head Coach Jenny Sugarman said of her new signings: “Katie is a really exciting signing for the club. She’s got some fantastic experience already at the age of 24 in the English system and is a talented attacking player that we hope will add goal contributions.

“We’re absolutely delighted to have Jodie on board – she brings an incredible wealth of experience across the game.”
