It has been a bad week for those who have been in charge of Man Utd over the past decade.

It has been a tough week for those who have taken charge at Old Trafford, with fresh pressure on Ruben Amorim after United were dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby Town on Wednesday night. Solskjaer was dismissed by Besiktas on Thursday night after the Turkish club were defeated by Ineos-owned Lausanne-Sport in the Conference League play-offs, while Mourinho was sacked by Fenerbahce on Friday morning after they lost in their Champions League play-off against Benfica in midweek.

In a statement released after the Conference League defeat on Thursday night, Besiktas said: "Our contract with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been terminated following a decision made at a board meeting. Following the meeting, our chairman, Serdal Adalı, thanked Solskjaer for his services to date."

It didn't take long for Fenerbahce to follow suit when they dismissed Mourinho just ten hours later, with a brief statement also released on Friday morning: "Our Professional Football First Team's technical director, Jose Mourinho, who has been carrying out his duties starting from the 2024-2025 season, has parted ways with us. We thank him for his efforts for our team until today and wish him success in his future career."

Amorim is expected to address his future when he holds his latest press conference on Friday afternoon ahead of the Premier League clash with Burnley. Speaking in the heat of the moment after the Grimsby defeat, he seemed to suggest he could walk away from the role if there was no improvement in results or performances.

“I think the players spoke really loudly about what they want today," he told ITV Sport. "Something has to change, and you’re not going to change 22 players again. It’s hard to face everything. We move to the next game, then we have time to decide things.”
