Middlesbrough stance on selling Hayden Hackney to Wolves in final days of window - journalist

Wolves’ hunt for a central midfielder is continuing as the transfer window starts to draw to a close.

There isn’t a lot of time left for the Old Gold to secure more arrivals, and adding quality to the centre of the pitch is a priority.

Wolves have been linked to Ajax’s Kenneth Taylor, and face competition from West Ham for the Dutchman’s signature. Meanwhile, they missed out on Carlos Soler to Real Sociedad.

Fosun are also looking at another West Ham target, as they have added Hayden Hackney to their shortlist, and Middlesbrough’s stance has been revealed.

Middlesbrough ‘reluctant’ to let Hayden Hackney leave this summer

Wolves have added Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney to their shortlist of central midfield targets, according to journalist John Percy.

The information from Percy says that Middlesbrough are ‘reluctant to sell’ the 23-year-old this summer.

The Boro player has been subject to interest from Ipswich and West Ham this transfer window, but has yet to make a move away.

He has started all three Championship games for the club, scoring one goal and providing an assist as Rob Edwards’ side have won all of their fixtures so far.

Deal for Hayden Hackney will be difficult to pull off for Wolves

Middlesbrough were willing to let Hayden Hackney leave earlier in the transfer window, however, it now seems they do not want to sell anymore.

A fee of £20 million was agreed with Ipswich Town, but Hackney rejected the move after personal talks with the Tractor Boys.

Before the Championship season kicked-off, Boro manager Rob Edwards said, ‘If H is here, then he’s a brilliant player, which is great. If he’s not, then there will be funds available.’

At this stage of the window, while the Championship side would still receive those funds, there would be little time to use them and find a suitable replacement.

A move for Hayden Hackney may highlight exactly how Fosun have acted in the transfer market, by leaving it too late.

Vitor Pereira will be hoping a solution can be found as quickly as possible, and that he isn’t left with insufficient depth in midfield.
