Jaguars GM makes it abundantly clear Trevor Lawrence's improvement is massive

While it's taken a bit of a backseat because of cutdown day and other things going on, Trevor Lawrence's performance remains one of the biggest storylines surrounding the Jacksonville Jaguars ahead of the 2025 season.

The fifth-year quarterback is coming off a pair of injury-marred seasons, and questions remain about whether he'll be able to bounce back under head coach Liam Coen. Based on general manager James Glastone's comments, he'll have no trouble pulling it off.

Jaguars GM James Gladstone is encouraged with Trevor Lawrence's progress

James Glastone met with the local media a couple days after the cutdown deadline and said that he's hyped up about Trevor Lawrence, pointing out that he's everything the team bargained for and then some.

"Absolutely jacked at the progression that we saw from the offseason program to now, where we're at through three preseason games and on the horizon of the regular season," Gladstone responded when asked what encouraged him about Lawrence (10:24 mark). "Because obviously going through so many different schemes throughout the early portion of his career, finding stability, finding confidence in understanding the intent of one play to the next operation takes some time."

Gladstone continued, "And so Trevor Lawrence was doing a phenomenal job operationally throughout the course of the offseason program, and really being consistent in doing what was explicitly asked. Throughout the course of training camp, he began to test everything and began to push the limits, not just to do what was asked, but go beyond that."

"And that was the exciting thing that you began to see sort of take shape and taking riskier throws, and actually threading the needle in a way that was jaw-dropping, right? And so that was the exciting progression from, let's call it the offseason program, to now, where we are at the end of training camp."

Lawrence spent the offseason rehabbing a shoulder injury he suffered last year. Moreover, he's learning a new scheme and has worked on his mechanics the past few months. The fact that Gladsone is heaping praise on the former Clemson Tiger shows that he's managed to handle everything well.

The Jaguars are confident Trevor Lawrence will take his game to the next level

You could make the case that James Gladstone is trying to prop up Trevor Lawrence, but the new regime hasn't been afraid to call out players or the coaching staff itself. That he's praising his quarterback shows that he's trending in the right direction.

Of course, it won't matter until Lawrence takes the field and starts winning games. If he doesn't, it all will ring hollow. Having said that, there's a reason to think that No. 16 will play at a high level when the time comes.

For starters, Lawrence did show progress in the offseason. On top of that, his supporting cast is arguably the best one he's had in his career. Aside from a beefed-up offensive line, he'll have no shortage of weapons with Brian Thomas Jr., Travis Hunter, Dyami Brown, Parker Washington, and the recently added Tim Patrick.

Couple that with the renewed emphasis on establishing the running game, and Trevor Lawrence is in a position to succeed.

No wonder, James Gladstone is stoked about him.
