Maisie Symonds has been named [Albion](https://www.theargus.co.uk/sport/albion/) captain for the new WSL season at the age of 22.
The England under-23s midfielder, who received a first senior Lionesses squad call-up this year, will lead the Seagulls into a campaign which starts at home to Aston Villa a week on Sunday.
She has been handed the role after the summer departure of Vicky Losada and is now Albion’s longest-serving current player.
Symonds, who has made 74 appearances for Albion, said: “It's a really nice feeling to know that the people you work with and respect have that belief in you.
“To be the captain is a massive role, I feel overwhelmed with happiness at the moment.

“There are a lot of experienced players within the squad and I'm sure I will continue to lean on them, not only me but every single member of the squad.
“Everyone will lead in different moments. Everyone will have to pick each other up.
“Everyone has a different role to play but I'm really looking forward to the challenge."
Albion have seen several experienced players depart this summer but England star Fran Kirby remains on board.

“Her leadership on and off the pitch is admirable and she understands the importance of this role and will help drive the standards of the team both on and off the pitch every day.

Symonds battled hard to overcome illness and injury early in her career and has always impressed as a positive-minded midfielder with an eye for an inventive pass.
