Meltdown begins: Man United stars losing faith in key duo after'worst result'

Manchester United’s nightmare start to the 2025-26 season plunged to a new low after a humiliating Carabao Cup exit at the hands of League Two outfit Grimsby Town.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the confidence of Man United players in their first and second-choice goalkeepers is dwindling.

The ‘experienced contingent’ of the squad considers their penalty shootout defeat to the League Two outfit as ‘their worst result’.

Pressure is now suffocating manager Ruben Amorim, who only fuelled the fire by openly admitting doubts about his future in the aftermath of Wednesday’s collapse.

Confidence in the Man United duo should already have been lost

Opponents have already figured out that United crumble whenever a corner is swung into the box.

Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir have been terrible additions to United and are unworthy of the famous United shirt.

Bayindir was named between the sticks in the opening Premier League encounter against Arsenal.

He was unable to command authority in the box during a corner and allowed the Gunners to steal three points at Old Trafford.

Onana made his maiden appearance of the new term against Grimsby.

He succumbed at the first chance, allowing a near-post strike to slip past him with alarming ease.

The 29-year-old was at fault again for the second goal. He flapped helplessly at a routine high ball, gifting Grimsby their second and compounding United’s humiliation.

The Cameroon international has made several high-profile errors at the back over the last two years, and he must be shown the Old Trafford exit door.

The Guardian also reported that the dressing room had started questioning the tactics and man-management of the head coach.

They also believe that the 40-year-old may resign unless results pick up.

The players who are raising doubts over the tactics must look themselves in the mirror and ask whether they have fared any better under previous managers.

With all due respect, if they need ground-breaking tactics to scrape past a fourth-tier side, then maybe they are not worthy of the badge they wear.
