‘100 per cent…’Micah Richards didn’t even think twice about major Man Utd prediction after opening three matches

Micah Richards told Gary Lineker his powerful verdict on Manchester United and Ruben Amorim after a mixed start to the 2025-26 campaign at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are still looking for their first win in the new season, with the Red Devils currently 16th in the Premier League table after their first two matches.

The Red Devils kicked off their 2025-26 season at Old Trafford in the Premier League and United lost 1-0 to Arsenal on the opening weekend of the campaign.

Following United’s result against rivals Arsenal earlier this month, the Red Devils played their first Premier League match away from home this season last week.

Ruben Amorim was able to collect the Red Devils’ first Premier League point last Sunday, with United and Fulham playing out a 1-1 scoreline at Craven Cottage.

However, things have turned ugly for the 40-year-old United manager since the Fulham result after the Red Devils crashed out of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Micah Richards and Gary Lineker felt strongly about one important Man Utd point right now amid the 2025-26 campaign

League Two side Grimsby Town knocked Manchester United out of the second round of the Carabao Cup in a thrilling penalty shootout win at Blundell Park.

Ruben Amorim has seen the pressure intensify after United’s display against Grimsby Town, with the League Two outfit leading 2-0 in the first half on Wednesday.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football, Micah Richards was asked if the ‘patience could run out’ with Amorim and the Sky Sports pundit didn’t hesitate with his response.

“100 per cent,” he said, before adding: “It’s so hard talking about United in terms of because…”

Gary Lineker then interjected and added: “It’s also negative, isn’t it?”

Responding to The Rest Is Football co-host, Richards explained: “Yes, it’s always so negative.

“But what we tried to do and I know you [Lineker], you’re not a pundit, you’re a presenter, but on this, you give your opinion.

“And I’d like to think that your opinion is very measured and fair.”

Micah Richards sets out his current stance on Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim after the start of the Premier League season at Old Trafford

Richards admitted that he was waiting until this season to see what Amorim was capable of at United after the former Sporting CP boss took charge back in 2024.

However, the 37-year-old former Manchester City defender has predicted that Amorim will be “under pressure” if United do not show any major improvement.

“But anyway, I think, I like to believe that we’re fair,” he told Lineker.

“And unfortunately, I said I wasn’t judging Amorim until this season. He’s got a pre-season under his belt. He’s got the players he wants in and then we’ll look at the end of the season.

“Of course, I don’t think he’s helped himself at times when constantly talking to the media.”

Richards added: “Things that should be kept in the dressing room [are] sort of leaked out into the media, which I don’t think helps. But I think he’s a good coach, but I think he needs players to play a certain way.

“I saw improvements in the first game, certainly against Arsenal. And then Fulham, there was good for a spell in the game, but they just got no consistency, have they?

“And that is the key. So, if he gets to the end of the season and it’s the same-old Man United, then of course he’s going to be under pressure.”

United will return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon, with the Red Devils hosting Burnley for a 3pm kick-off time in the UK at Old Trafford.
