Adam Schefter exposes just how close Cowboys were to keeping Micah Parsons

Dallas sports fans might have had the worst calendar year of any fanbase in the country. First, Luka Doncic was traded away for pennies. Now, Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons has been moved due to Jerry Jones' ineptitude.

Parsons being traded to the Green Bay Packers is a reality that no Cowboys fan wants to live with. To make things even worse, the team was painfully close to extending their pass rusher.

NFL insider Adam Schefter just dropped a new piece of information that will have Cowboys fans up in arms.

Adam Schefter reveals just how close the Cowboys were to extending Micah Parsons

Speaking on Thursday on The Pat McAfee Show, Schefter exposed Jerry Jones for his mind-numbing negotiation strategy. According to Schefter, "Jerry Jones had what he thought was an agreement for a deal that averaged $40.5 million a year."

Schefter went on to say that Jones didn't want to include Parsons' agent, David Mulugheta, in the contract negotiations. He had a "handshake agreement" with Parsons, and he wanted to leave it at that. After Parsons made it clear that his agent would need to be involved in any negotiations moving forward, there had been no communication about a new deal. Zero.

The news that Parsons and Jones had anything close to an agreement on a new contract shows just how close we were to avoiding all of this drama. It looks like Jones was just being stubborn about the difference of a few million dollars and having one more person in the room for the negotiations. As a result, the Cowboys are without their best player moving forward. It's infuriating.

Jerry's stubbornness, selfishness, egocentrism, or whatever you want to call it has been driving this franchise into the ground for decades. At this point, it's more of a business than it is a football team.
