The Dallas Cowboys kick off the NFL regular season seven days from now, and there is growing doubt that Micah Parsons will be on the field. With Dallas off from practice the next few days, Parsons has reportedly left the team to get a second opinion on his back.
While the Cowboys remain adamant that they will not trade Parsons, rumors - however flimsy - continue to circle the Green Bay Packers as a potential landing spot. With whispers reaching a deafening level, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst was asked about the team's interest in Parsons.
"I can't talk about any players on other teams," Gutekunst said. Every opportunity that's out there that we think can help the Packers, we're going to take a long, hard look at. If that opportunity makes sense, we'll do it. If it doesn't, we won't.
Cowboys fans would never forgive Jerry Jones if Micah Parsons is traded to the Packers
That is typical coachspeak from Gutekunst, but it's fairly easy to read between the lines: the Packers will absolutely pursue Parsons if the Cowboys don't repair the relationship. Parsons would be the missing piece for a Green Bay team loaded with young talent on both sides of the ball, but it is extremely difficult to gauge all of the rumors that are flying around.
Some leaks out of Green Bay claim the two teams have the parameters of a trade worked out. On SI is reporting that the Cowboys are actually entertaining offers for Parsons. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk brought some levity to the situation, acknowledging that the Packers have interest but that their interest is "nowhere near the smoke that's out there."

Of course, all of this is hogwash if Jerry Jones won't trade him. That could change in a hurry if the relationship continues to deteriorate, though.
Regardless, all of the smoke out of Green Bay might suggest there is a game of cat and mouse going on between Parsons' team and the Cowboys' front office.
On one hand, knowing what the Packers would be willing to offer could light a fire under Jones. On the other, Green Bay isn’t exactly a hotspot for superstars - especially outspoken, brand-focused ones like Parsons. Would he really be able to grow his profile in the Wisconsin market? His exposure could take a serious hit.
Like we said, it’s tough to get a full read on the situation. But if it gets to that point, you can all but guarantee the Packers will be one of the teams in the mix. That doesn’t mean Jerry Jones would ever seriously consider trading Parsons to Green Bay, but until there’s a resolution, Cowboys fans should keep it on their radar.
