Arne Slot remains receptive to Liverpool bringing in "the right player" for the appropriate fee following Thursday's developments that suggested Newcastle might be more willing to part ways with Alexander Isak.

The Reds have already seen a £110 million offer for the Swedish forward turned down, though he continues to push for a departure and is currently training in isolation at Newcastle.

The Magpies are nearing a deal for Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade, which could - potentially alongside another attacking addition - make them more inclined to entertain a bid for Isak that meets their demands.

Newcastle are understood to be seeking around £150m for Isak.

When speaking to journalists on Friday before Sunday's clash with Arsenal, Slot didn't dismiss the prospect of Liverpool re-entering the transfer market before Monday's deadline.

"We try to sign players that can help us, but there's no reason after the first two games to complain or to think we need more," he said.

"If we can strengthen the squad then we will always try to do that, if it's for the right money and the right player, and there are only three or four days to go now.

"Let's see if we do something, and if we do something, what we can do."

Slot, responding to the Magpies' move for Woltemade, added: "Newcastle signed, if it's true and I have no reason not to believe what you are saying, a new number nine. So that's very nice for (Newcastle head coach) Eddie (Howe), because Anthony Gordon is suspended and Isak has not been training with the team a lot, so it's nice for him to have another number nine."

Woltemade looks set to sign for Newcastle, with the striker on Tyneside to put the finishing touches to a move.

"Shortly before the close of the summer transfer window, VfB Stuttgart have received an offer from a European club for the immediate transfer of Nick Woltemade," a Stuttgart statement said on Thursday.

"The terms of proposal led to the VfB club management releasing Nick Woltemade from training and match duties in order to hold talks with the interested party regarding a potential move. "A decision on the matter is expected on Friday."
