Kentucky WR Troy Stellato finds similarities to Julian Edelman

Kentucky football’s receiving corps is adding a new dimension with the arrival of Troy Stellato, a Clemson transfer who isn’t shy about comparing himself to one of his idols: New England Patriots great Julian Edelman.

“I’m a huge Patriots fan. My family is from Boston, I was born in the Boston area, watching him (Edelman) growing up, he was my idol receiver,” Stellato told Cole Parks of Cats Pause. “That comparison, I really see it because I pride myself on toughness, doing what it takes to make the catch, getting smashed over the middle, and coming up with it.

“That gets the crowd riled up, and it’s super fun to do that. Love Edelman, he’s the best, he’s one of the GOATs, especially at the slot position. It’s a good comparison.”

Stellato brings versatility to Kentucky’s receiving room, expected to start in the slot.

“Over the middle, I’m probably gonna start out there in slot, making tough catches, running as fast as I can. I feel like I bring speed, sub 4.4 guy, so I feel like I’m gonna really show speed versatility. I pride myself on my toughness also, making tough catches over the middle, blocking, all the little things that help us win,” he said.

At Clemson, Stellato played four seasons, recording 65 catches for 600 yards and two touchdowns in 11 starts across 23 games. Kentucky’s Week 1 depth chart lists him as the primary option at the F position alongside Kendrick Law, with Montavin Quisenberry as backup.

The receiving corps also includes Hardley Gilmore or J.J. Hester at X, D.J. Miller as backup, and Ja’Mori Maclin or Fred Farrier II at Z, backed by Cameron Miller.

If Kentucky is going to have a bounce-back season offensively, guys like Stellato will need to step up and have the best seasons of their college careers.
