‘Negotiations are…’: Genk manager issues an update on Wolves target Tolu Arokodare

Jorgen Strand Larsen seems set to stay at Wolves now, and Vitor Pereira is looking to provide cover and competition for the Norwegian before the window closes.

Jeff Shi personally told Strand Larsen he is going nowhere, but attempts to sign a striker are not slowing down.

Vitor Pereira holds strong interest in Yuri Alberto, but a move for Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare seems to be a lot closer.

On Thursday night, Genk competed in the Europa League play-offs against Lech Poznan, and Arokodare was not in the squad, with no reason provided.

However, now, the manager of the Belgian side has spoken about the decision ahead of a potential transfer.

Genk manager confirms talks for Tolu Arokodare are underway

While there was no word before the game on why Tolu Arokodare was not in the Genk squad, manager Thorsten Fink did lift the lid following Thursday night’s proceedings.

Speaking after the Belgian club qualified for the Europa League, Fink said, ‘Negotiations are underway. There’s a club interested. It was too risky for both parties to play.’

He later went on to say, ‘We’re working with players I know can give it their all, not with guys who might be preoccupied. It was better for everyone to leave Tolu out of the squad.’

The comments from Fink suggest that Arokodare already has his sights set on making the switch to Molineux. Wolves will want to move quickly to avoid another situation like Christantus Uche.

Signing Tolu Arokodare would leave Wolves in a better position than relegation rivals

Tolu Arokodare was one of the best performing strikers in football last season. The Nigerian is a clinical goalscorer, and with his 6’6″ frame, he is a constant physical threat in the box.

He scored 22 goals for Genk last campaign while providing seven assists for his teammates.

He will likely be arriving as both cover and competition for Jorgen Strand Larsen, and having two quality forwards will certainly help the Old Gold avoid the drop.

While Wolves typically only play with one striker, Sasa Kaladjzic hinted at a tactical change after the West Ham win.

And if Tolu Arokodare gets confirmed, it could be a change that Wolves fans see more often throughout the season.

It would also be a line-up that Premier League defenders will not be happy to come up against.
