Manchester United fell to a shock second-round exit from the Carabao Cup after losing on penalties to League Two side Grimsby Town. It is yet another low point for Manchester United in these last few seasons of turmoil for the club.
It is one of the biggest shocks in recent years, and yet another performance that the players will not want to remember. Here are the Manchester United ratings for this encounter.
Andre Onana - 2
The goalkeeper had a disastrous night on his first start of the season - one that could spell an end to his Manchester United career. The Cameroonian was at fault in both goals. He saved a penalty and scored one, but ultimately did not do enough in the shootout to redeem himself.
Tyler Fredricson - 3
The youngster looked completely out of place against Grimsby. A poor first half led to him being substituted at half time. He is certainly in need of a loan before being around the first team.
Harry Maguire - 5
The best of the defenders, but that is not a difficult feat in this one. He scored the equaliser to take the game to penalties, but looked one step behind defensively for a lot of the game.
Ayden Heaven - 4.5
Similar to Maguire in the fact that he was one of the better defenders on the pitch, but still a sub-par performance from Heaven. He looked off the pace and won less than half of his duels.
Diego Dalot - 4
A poor night for the wing-back. He was particularly at fault for the first goal, completely out of position, leaving Fredricson hung out to dry on the right side of defence.
Kobbie Mainoo - 5.5
Came into this game with a point to prove, but could not really take advantage of the situation. Had some positive moments and was one of United's better players. Assisted Mbuemo's goal.
Manuel Ugarte - 2
An abysmal performance from the Uruguayan, who got pulled off at half-time following a horrid 45 minutes from the midfielder. He just never looked up for it in a performance that has done nothing to improve his reputation with the United fans.
Patrick Dorgu - 3
He got into the final third enough to impact play, but the quality of his crosses were appalling. Like Ugarte did not look like a player who wanted to be on the pitch against Grimsby.
Amad Diallo - 3
The Ivorian was nowhere near his best against Grimsby. He barely threatened his opponent's backline, looking like a shadow of his usual self.
Benjamin Sesko - 3
It could not have gone much worse for Sesko, who is still waiting for his first goal in his Manchester United career. Many would have expected it to come against Grimsby, but that would not be the case. He had a golden chance to win it in injury time, but he blasted his attempt over the bar.
Matheus Cunha - 3
A big step back from the weekend by the Brazilian. He offered none of the threat that he did against Fulham. Also missed the penalty that would have secured United a place in the next round.
Substitutes:
Bruno Fernandes - 6
As he so often has in these times of turmoil, Fernandes managed to gain some control for his side and helped get them back in the game. He was directly involved in the goals, but his range of passing certainly made United more of a threat.
Matthijs de Ligt - 6
Sured up United's defence. He once again proved why he is a key figure in this team, with the backline looking much calmer than it did in the opening 45 minutes.
Bryan Mbuemo - 5.5
Mbuemo kick-started the comeback for United with a very nice goal to get him off the mark for the Red Devils. However, he did miss the penalty to seal defeat for his side.
Mason Mount - 6
Did not have much time to impose himself on the game, but did deliver the cross for Maguire's equaliser.
Joshua Zirkzee - N/A
