The Golden State Warriors continue navigating a pivotal offseason, with maximizing Stephen Curry‘s championship window their top priority. After months of speculation surrounding Jonathan Kuminga, there’s one trade scenario that could be the Warriors’ dream solution — and here’s why it makes sense.
The idea, originally proposed by Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes, would send Kuminga to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Coby White. The deal has been framed as a potential win-win for both sides.

Kuminga has shown flashes of brilliance, but his development has been frustratingly inconsistent for a Warriors team that needs reliable production now.
That’s where Coby White comes in — who averaged 20.4 points last season while shooting 45% from the field, 37% from three, and 90% from the free-throw line. For Golden State, Kuminga’s potential might be less valuable than White’s proven scoring ability at a time when every season matters in Curry’s twilight years.
However, White’s contract status complicates things. He’s entering the final year of his deal, and his breakout season all but guarantees he’ll command a major raise in free agency.
Why Coby White Looks Like a Perfect Fit for the Warriors’ System
White has evolved into a legitimate two-way guard, combining efficient shooting with playmaking at 4.5 assists per game.
Under Steve Kerr, his versatility would shine. White’s ability to thrive both on and off the ball makes him an ideal complement to Curry’s gravity. His catch-and-shoot game fits seamlessly into Golden State’s motion-heavy system, while his driving ability adds another layer to the offense.
For a team that has often lacked consistent scoring beyond Curry, White’s skillset checks all the boxes.

For Kuminga, Chicago offers the chance to finally spread his wings. At 22, the forward has all the physical tools to be a star, but Golden State’s crowded rotation has limited his growth.
A move to the Bulls would give him consistent minutes and the opportunity to develop in a system with less immediate pressure.
Trading White — who could walk in free agency — for a young, controllable talent like Kuminga also makes sense for a Bulls team in need of long-term building blocks.
The Warriors’ Verdict
For the Warriors, this trade represents a calculated risk aimed at maximizing Curry’s remaining prime. White brings proven scoring and offensive versatility, giving Golden State the reliability it needs more than Kuminga’s still-untapped upside.
The championship window is now, not years down the line. This deal works because both players step into ideal situations: White helps the Warriors contend immediately, while Kuminga finally gets the developmental runway he’s been seeking.
The question is whether Golden State will take that risk. With Curry at 37, the time to make one final push for another championship in the Bay is running out.
