2 more Patriots cuts find new teams after leaving New England

Just like Cole Strange and Marcus Epps, Demontrey Jacobs and JaMycal Hasty have also found new teams after being let go by the New England Patriots earlier in the week.

The two veterans were among the 21 players let go by the organization ahead of the NFL roster cutdown deadline on Tuesday. Two days later, as confirmed by the NFL transactions wire, they both signed practice squad contracts elsewhere: Jacobs is headed to the Arizona Cardinals, with Hasty now a member of the Miami Dolphins.

Jacobs, 26, began his career as an undrafted free agent out of South Florida in 2023. Originally a member of the Denver Broncos, he came to New England as a waiver claim last August. Despite his late arrival, he ended up starting a combined 13 games for the Patriots during the 2024 season and ranked second on the team with 867

offensive snaps (79.3%) on the season.

The Patriots retained Jacobs as an exclusive rights free agent earlier this year, but he never returned to the starting lineup. With offseason additions Will Campbell and Morgan Moses atop the offensive tackle depth chart, the former starter was waived ahead of the roster deadline.

Hasty, 28, began his career as a UDFA with the San Francisco 49ers in 2020 and later also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars. After the Jaguars waived him in November 2023, he joined the Patriots as a waiver claim and over the next one and a half seasons saw action in 17 games as a rotational running back and kickoff returner.

However, the Patriots opted to not immediately re-sign the Baylor product in this year’s free agency. Even though he contributed 366 all-purpose yards and a touchdown to the team the previous season, he remained unsigned until New England brought him back in early August. However, he found himself buried on the depth chart behind the top trio of Rhamondre Stevenson, Antonio Gibson and TreVeyon Henderson.

Besides having a full 53-man roster, the Patriots also filled the final opening on their practice squad on Thursday.
