Real Madrid out, Barcelona in: Tuchel's 24-man England squad revealed

England manager Thomas Tuchel has named a 24-man squad for the Three Lions' upcoming World Cup 2026 Qualifying fixtures against Andorra and Serbia.

The German's side are bidding to extend their perfect record in UEFA Group K, having taken nine points from a possible nine against Albania, Latvia and Andorra since Tuchel took charge at the start of the year.

However, England's 1-0 win in Andorra on June 7 left a lot to be desired, and Tuchel suffered his first defeat at the helm just three days later, as Senegal prevailed 3-1 in a friendlyat the City Ground.

Reconvening for the first time since that humbling defeat, the Three Lions welcome Andorra to Aston Villa's Villa Park on September 6, before heading to the Dubocica Stadium to take on Euro 2024 foes Serbia on September 9.

Tuchel has summoned 24 players for his September squad, including Nottingham Forest lynchpin Elliot Anderson, who earns his first senior call-up for his country after helping the Under-21s win the European Championships this summer.

Anderson was on Tuchel's radar for the June camp after registering two goals and six assists in 37 Premier League games last season, but it was decided he would join up with the Under-21s in order to earn some crucial tournament experience.

However, the 22-year-old could now make his senior bow for England, and he joins the likes of Brentford new boy Jordan Henderson and Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton in Tuchel's midfield selection.

Further forward, Barcelona's on-loan Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford has been summoned, in spite of an indifferent start to life with the Blaugrana, as Tuchel manages without Bukayo Saka following the Arsenal attacker's hamstring injury.

The latter's Gunners teammates Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze are in, though, as is Myles Lewis-Skelly, in spite of the fact that Riccardo Calafiori has been Mikel Arteta's first-choice left-back in the early stages of the 2025-26 season.

Also selected for the defensive contingent is Tottenham Hotspur's Djed Spence, who earns a maiden senior call-up alongside Anderson after a strong start to life under Thomas Frank at left-back, while Manchester City's John Stones returns from injury.

Real Madrid's Trent Alexander-Arnold on August 19, 2025

From the winners to the losers, Real Madrid's Trent Alexander-Arnold has been dropped from the selection, having so far struggled to show his best form since moving to the Spanish capital.

Chelsea's Trevoh Chalobah, Manchester United's Harry Maguire and Burnley's Kyle Walker have also been omitted this time around, while Jude Bellingham and Cole Palmer miss out through injury alongside the stricken Saka.

Also absent from the offensive ranks are Manchester City's Phil Foden and Everton loanee Jack Grealish, as the latter misses the cut despite providing two assists on his home debut for the Toffees against Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

In goal, Tuchel has stuck with the trio of Dean Henderson, Jordan Pickford and James Trafford, in spite of the latter's howler in Manchester City's 2-0 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
