McTominay repeat? Mainoo'makes U-turn'on stance over permanent Man Utd exit

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has reportedly set his heart on a move to Napoli this summer.

The 20-year-old was supposedly pushing for a loan switch away from the Theatre of Dreams in the coming days, with the Red Devils snubbing the idea.

Mainoo is struggling to make an impact in the Man United ranks under Ruben Amorim this term, failing to feature in their opening two Premier League contests.

However, the English midfielder played 90 minutes of the EFL Cup defeat at League Two Grimsby Town on Wednesday night.

Since graduating from the club's academy in October 2022, Mainoo has featured on 73 occasions for Man United, scoring seven goals.

Man United reluctant to let Mainoo live Italian dream?

According to The Mirror, a European powerhouse is extremely keen on bringing Mainoo out of his Man United nightmare this summer.

The report claims that Serie A champions Napoli are plotting a permanent move for the 20-year-old before the conclusion of the transfer window.

It is understood that the Champions League-competing club are willing to offer Mainoo a bumper four-year contract in Naples.

Inspired by the success of former Red Devil Scott McTominay, it is believed that the youngster is keen on a switch to the Serie A outfit.

However, Amorim's men are supposedly reluctant to let Mainoo depart to Napoli given McTominay's success last season.

Man United mission clear for Mainoo

Only managing minutes in the EFL Cup so far this term, Mainoo faces a major obstacle if he wishes to fight his way back into the Man United team.

Head coach Amorim has openly stated that the 20-year-old is competing against star man Bruno Fernandes for a spot in the XI.

With the Portugal international unlikely to be benched anytime soon, Mainoo is probably best pushing for a move away from Old Trafford, whether that be on loan or permanently.
