Man United wary key player could leave

Manchester United will hope to bounce back from their Carabao Cup humiliation against Grimsby Town when they face Burnley on Saturday.

The Red Devils were knocked out of the competition by the Mariners after a 12-11 penalty shoot-out on Wednesday, adding to the pressure on head coach Ruben Amorim.

So far this season United have picked up just a single point from their opening two Premier League games, losing to Arsenal before being held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham last time out.

Ahead of their next match against the Clarets, it appears that those in charge of the club are concerned about the future of arguably their most important player.

As per CaughtOffside, United are wary that captain Bruno Fernandes could be ready for a new chapter in his career.

The Portugal international has played an integral role for United ever since joining from Sporting back in 2020, but the report suggests that he could be interested in a move to the MLS.

Fernandes, 30, is under contract at Old Trafford until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, and the report claims that the midfielder gave the green light for his representatives to explore a move to Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad earlier this summer.

The deal never materialised, despite fellow Pro League outfit Al Hilal having previously offered the Portugal international a staggering £700,000-per-week.

Fernandes has scored 98 goals and registered 86 assists in 293 games for United across all competitions, and has been arguably their best player in each of the past three seasons.

The report suggests that he is considering a future away from Old Trafford, though, and it remains to be seen whether or not United would take the opportunity to cash in on the player before he gets even closer to the end of his current deal.
