Everton’s [Carabao Cup matchup](https://princerupertstower.com/everton-gets-the-job-done-in-caraboa-cup-victory-over-mansfield-town-01k3pmqkjv51) against Mansfield Town allowed a few rotation players to receive minutes, the most obvious one being Harrison Armstrong. The teenager was in the starting lineup and delivered two assists in 90 minutes, being one of the focal points for the Toffees.
[Statistically](https://www.fotmob.com/matches/everton-vs-mansfield-town/2tqntz?player=1559637#4927192:tab=lineup), he was incredible. Armstrong had three key passes, two key chances created, 73 touches, 65 accurate passes, and, of course, the two assists.
Armstrong and Charly Alcaraz had a very interesting dynamic together as they both switched positions occasionally, which confused Mansfield Town’s backline and opened up space for Jack Grealish and Dwight McNeil.
David Moyes also deployed Armstrong in stoppage time against Brighton, showcasing that the manager has some trust in the player.
So, should Harrison Armstrong go out on loan with such little time left in the transfer window?
Unless Everton bring in two midfielders, Armstrong should be given a chance to compete for a substantive role, especially with Iliman Ndiaye and Idrissa Gana Gueye likely missing out on some games due to AFCON.
We could see Armstrong line up next to Garner or Tim Iroegbunam in the double pivot or up front next to Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
If there’s one good quality that Armstrong possesses, it’s his tactical flexibility. For Derby County in the EFL Championship, he was deployed lower on the pitch, but with Everton, he’s been playing much higher and could realistically play as a CAM in this system, similar to Abdoulaye Doucoure, but with better ball dribbling and reception.
But if the Toffees sign two more midfielders, then it would benefit the player more to leave on a loan, but considering the current context, that seems unlikely.
Who knows? Maybe Armstrong breaks out into a regular contributor and becomes one of the club’s most valuable assets. Time will tell, but his performance against Mansfield Town is incredibly encouraging, enough so to keep him on the roster.
