Thomas Tuchel shares 'huge' Jack Grealish message after England omission despite Everton rebirth

Everton winger Jack Grealish has not been called up to the latest England squad.

Since landing on Merseyside, the early signs have been extremely positive for Grealish, who has two starts to his name.

Even against a League One outfit on Wednesday night, Grealish was keen to start against Mansfield Town in the Carabao Cup.

David Moyes has been delighted with the signing of Grealish, who is showing a clear hunger to get back to his absolute best.

Everton saw Jordan Pickford claim his usual spot in the England squad having nailed down his spot as the number one goalkeeper.

The eyes were on a potential call-up for Grealish, though, following a bright start to the 2025/26 campaign.

Thomas Tuchel has now addressed his decision not to select the 29-year-old.

The 29-year-old has only just got going in an Everton shirt following a difficult couple of seasons at Manchester City.

Speaking to the media on Friday, Tuchel has now explained the reasoning behind Grealish not making the cut.

“We didn’t use all 23 players to make it a more competitive squad,” said Tuchel.

“There’s no doubt I am a big fan of Trent [Alexander-Arnold] and Jack [Grealish] of both their talent and personalities. They are big players, they will always be big players. And they will always be in the mix to be called up.

“I know that both of them are desperate to be back, which is really important.”

“I think they can have a bit more rhythm, I think Jack is starting to play again and he has a huge impact at Everton, which is nice to see.”

Louis Saha has backed Grealish to make England’s World Cup squad ahead of next summer.

There are a lot of good options on offer for Tuchel, but he will have a keen eye on Grealish’s displays for Everton ahead of the next England squad.

Thomas Tuchel loves Jack Grealish

The former Chelsea manager took charge of the Three Lions at the start of the year, but he is yet to include Grealish in one of his squads.

Now playing regular football again on Merseyside, the 29-year-old’s chances of making a return to the fold will have taken a major boost.

After all, it was only back in March when Tuchel shared his admiration for Grealish.

“I love everything about him – his personality, I love his quality, the guy has courage, he can take the heat, he is not affected if the Bernabeu whistles him,” he told the media.

“So is he a player who can be available and have an impact in our squad? Yes – 100 per cent.

“I think Jack gets better and better the more minutes he plays. He has the character to be the glue in a team, it is easy for youngsters to attach to him.”

Pickford has claimed Grealish looks like a player reborn in Everton training, but he has to show some consistency in games to claim his stake with Tuchel.
