Major Leeds United transfer blow as Chelsea 'hijack' deal for Premier League attacker

Chelsea are reportedly in discussions with Brighton and Hove Albion over a potential deal for winger Facundo Buonanotte. The Argentine was initially expected to join Leeds United on loan, but now it seems Enzo Maresca's Chelsea have entered the fray.

The Blues have already made significant investments in their attacking line-up this summer, with Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens all making their way to Stamford Bridge. Alejandro Garnacho is also anticipated to sign a long-term contract with the club shortly.

However, Maresca's revamp of the attack doesn't seem to be finished yet. As per The Athletic, Chelsea are nearing a loan deal for Buonanotte from Brighton.

Leeds were once the favourites to secure the Argentine's services, but that deal has since fallen through after Chelsea came into the picture. Daniel Farke's side had even arranged a flight for Buonanotte to travel to West Yorkshire on Thursday afternoon to finalise the move, but the forward never got on the plane, reports the Express.

Buonanotte registered six goals and three assists in 35 games on loan at Leicester City last season. His decision to turn United down leaves them short of options as the transfer deadline approaches. Daniel Farke is eager to bolster their attacking options to increase their chances of avoiding the drop. Bilal El Khannouss, Dilane Bakwa, Eduard Spertsyan and Manor Solomon are thought to be players on their radar going into the final days of the window.
