Kostas Tsimikas is set to undergo a medical at AS Roma ahead of his loan move.

The 29-year-old made only eight Premier League starts from 17 appearances last term.

Tsimikas has not been involved in matchday squads so far this campaign, with Arne Slot preferring Milos Kerkez and Andy Roberton as his left back options.

The Greek international joined Liverpool from Olympiacos in August 2020 for £11.75 million.

During his five seasons at Anfield, he made 114 appearances across all competitions.

The Athletic has reported that Tsimikas has been permission to fly for a medical at AS Roma ahead of his loan move.

It is a straight loan with no option or obligation to buy:

“Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas has been given permission to undergo a medical with Roma ahead of a season-long loan move,” James Pearce wrote.

“The deal is a straight loan with no option to buy.”

It is also stated that Tsimikas was always going to lean towards a club that can provide European competition and is more inclined to move abroad rather than remain in England.

Reports from Italy claimed that the Serie A club had initially hoped for a deal including a purchase option but ultimately accepted the straight loan arrangement to secure the player’s services.

Liverpool and Roma were unable to agree on a fee for a permanent solution.

Tsimikas is a popular figure among the players and will no doubt be missed in and amongst the dressing room.

Under contract at Liverpool until 2027 following a renewal in 2023, Tsimikas’s long-term future still remains uncertain.

He will report back to the AXA next summer likely in the same boat.

But the situation could be different if Andy Robertson moves on, with the Scot seeing his deal expire on Merseyside at the end of this campaign.

What is clear is that Milos Kerkez is seen as the number one option from the first few competitive games at least.
