Newcastle United fans, strap yourselves in for a healthy portion of Bayern Munich bitterness over Nick Woltemade.
[Kicker provide the goods today](https://www.kicker.de/freund-ueber-woltemade-wechsel-newcastle-ist-nicht-die-oberste-kategorie-1141870/artikel), with comments from Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund today as Newcastle close in on a big deal for Woltemade.
The Magpies moved swiftly for the highly rated German striker yesterday, striking a deal with VfB Stuttgart that will see them pay an initial €85m plus €5m in bonuses.
They’ve moved quickly and opened the wallet wide to get their man, potentially as a replacement for Alexander Isak, who remains determined to force through a move to Liverpool before the end of the transfer window.
The willingness to pay big has seen them blow potential competition out of the water, namely Bayern Munich.
They’ve been linked with a move for Woltemade all summer, viewing him as a potential alternative and long-term replacement for Harry Kane.
They struggled to agree a deal with Stuttgart, though, and Newcastle’s willingness to spend a club record fee, breaking the previous amount that they paid to sign Isak from Real Sociedad, has left them in the dust.
And, it seems they’re not all taking it well, if the latest comments from the likes of Freund are anything to go by.
_“Bayern Munich is Bayern Munich, a very, very big club,”_ said the Bayern sporting director.
_“The boys can win titles here, we can offer them very interesting options internationally, and domestically as well. It’s always the player’s decision._
_“We at Bayern Munich are very, very attractive, we notice that again and again when we talk to players. Financially, the Premier League is in a different league. You have discussions, you have a certain relationship._
_“Ultimately, it’s the player’s decision as to what’s the best step for his career. We’re not involved in that. The sums of money involved; how much money is at stake; that they have brutal opportunities in the Premier League. Not just two or three clubs, many clubs. Newcastle is a good club, but not the top tier.”_
