When Micah Parsons was traded to the Green Bay Packers, fans around the DFW Metroplex couldn't help but think of their hearts being ripped out just less than seven months ago when Luka Doncic was unexpectedly traded by the Dallas Mavericks. Jerry Jones didn't just trade away arguably the best player on his team, he traded away someone who was beloved in the city of Dallas.
Jones couldn't help but make his post-Parsons press conference take the form of another PR nightmare During the presser, Jones couldn't help himself but to remind fans about the infamous Herschel Walker trade back in 1989.
"Micah Parsons did an outstanding job for us for four years, and a little bit of the way Herschel Walker may have had his greatest contribution to the Cowboys, what he brought to us when he left could be a tremendous thing for our fans and the success of this team," Jones said.
Jerry Jones comparing Micah Parsons trade to the Cowboys' Herschel Walker deal is delusional
No, Jerry. Trading away one of the NFL's best players for a Pro Bowl-caliber interior defensive lineman and two first-round picks isn't the same as the Walker trade. Even though Kenny Clark is one of the best at his position, this doesn't come close to matching the Walker trade, and Jones trying to compare it to that is delusional, if not unsurprising.
The Cowboys got five players from the Minnesota Vikings, which they ultimately ended up cutting to get an overhaul of draft picks to eventually become the gold standard of football in the 1990s. While the trade looked questionable at the time, at least the plan was to rebuild from a 1-15 season.
MUST-READ:Jerry Jones rejected Micah Parsons’ apology before trading him to Packers
The Cowboys with Parsons weren't in a rebuild, they had Super Bowl hopes. Now, it's hard to believe those hopes will stick around after the Packers were just gifted with the best pass rusher in the game.
Only getting back two first-rounders for one of the best in the game isn't something Jerry should've signed off on. With Parsons at the peak of his powers, the Cowboys were undoubtedly fleeced by the Packers. Many fans probably have a lot of dream scenario trades in mind, but the fact that he was traded to the Packers out of all teams makes it that much worse.
There’s no getting around this if your name is Jerry or Stephen Jones. Out of the complete list of front office malpractice this century, this trade has to be one of the worst moves Jones has ever made. Getting rid of Jimmy Johnson might still be the worst, but trading Parsons is pretty close.
